Mise en scene

Mise en scene in film is all the elements of filming combined in one scene which includes: makeup, set design, costumes, color, blocking, sound, music, props, framing, and lenses. These elements are what make up a scene overall. Anything in a scene can be considered Mise en scene because it is what it used to create the film. Mise en scene also involves the basics that make up a film which include actors and the scenery as well. It is important to the telling of the story because it is generated of all the main factors that are used to produce a film, and those factors are what tell the story. For example, a character's costume can help tell the story of the scene by having a very distinct outfit that can say a lot about the character's personality and what kind of world they live in. This gives the audience a hint of what the story will be about based off these clues.

1. Location can make or break a scene as its location can define how confidential or important a scene is. It allows the audience to know what kind of scene is taking place. Location says a lot about characters, intentions, obstacles, and themes. The difference between a conversation in McDonald's as opposed to a church can be extreme.

2. A scene's color influences the viewer by creating different kinds of mood and tone changes for the audience. This helps the viewer establish what the purpose of the scene is. Different colors play a huge role on the development and background of a setting. Colors can express a lot about a scene as the characters in the film make use of it, this lets the viewer know what the theme, or kind of setting is taking place. For example, the color orange can resemble destruction as it is used for the color of flames and explosion which demonstrates the viewer some kind of violence has occurred.

3. Sets are used to establish a story's environment by allowing it to create different worlds that take place for the story. For example, Naturalistic takes place in a natural setting where the location is realistic compared to the real worlds. This lets the audience narrow down what kind of fiction the film will involve. Same goes for theatrical where it can take place in an exaggerated world intended to be unnormal that gives the scene a more fantasy look because of the setting. The setting is very crucial as it dictates the time of century, place, and story.

Beauty and the Beast where Belle has her hair and makeup done softly which shows that she has a kind, curious, and humble personality and the prop is the rose inside the case when Belle first comes across it and wonders what it is. This is an example how Mise en scene uses props, makeup, and hair to tell a scene.
